Christine Faurbo鈥檚 journey to 鉴黄师app is rooted in something deeply personal鈥攆amily. Originally from Kingman, Kansas, she chose 鉴黄师app to stay close to home and support her father, while pursuing a long-standing path in healthcare. Now a nursing major with an expected graduation date of 2028, Christine is balancing life, work, and school with determination and purpose.

Her interest in nursing comes naturally. 鈥淢y family has always been in the medical field,鈥 she shares, making her career choice feel like a continuation of something bigger than herself. But while the path may feel familiar, the journey hasn鈥檛 been without its challenges.

As a non-traditional student, Christine admits stepping into in-person classes pushed her far outside her comfort zone. 鈥淚 was uncertain about how people would see me,鈥 she says. 鈥淟ife has a way of sneaking up on you, and I decided better late than never.鈥 Her motivation runs deeper than personal achievement鈥攕he wants to show her son that age should never limit your goals. 鈥淣o matter when, your goals are achievable.鈥

That mindset has carried her through one of her biggest hurdles: managing a demanding schedule. Between work, family, and school, flexibility has been key. 鈥淭hankfully, Fort Scott offers online classes, which has been extremely helpful,鈥 she explains.

Despite the challenges, Christine has found joy and inspiration in her time at 鉴黄师app鈥攅specially in the classroom. Her favorite course so far? Microbiology. 鈥淢rs. Springer is so much fun,鈥 she says. 鈥淗er lectures are exciting and funny.鈥 What might intimidate many students has become something Christine looks forward to. 鈥淵ou walk in thinking it鈥檚 going to be tough鈥攁nd it is鈥攂ut she makes it engaging. You find yourself laughing and can鈥檛 wait for the next class.鈥

Biology instructor Tracy Springer sees that same determination in Christine, noting, 鈥淐hristine manages competing demands of life, work and school with a positive attitude.鈥

Christine is also quick to recognize the people behind the scenes who have made a difference in her journey. She highlights Amber in the 鉴黄师app Business Office as someone who has gone above and beyond. 鈥淚f anything could go wrong with my account, it would鈥攁nd did,鈥 Christine says with a laugh. 鈥淎mber has been extremely persistent and helpful. She never gives up.鈥

Through it all, Christine has grown not just academically, but personally. She鈥檚 built connections, gained confidence, and embraced new experiences. Even though she鈥檚 still getting to know campus life, she describes the 鉴黄师app community as 鈥渆xtremely helpful.鈥

Looking ahead, Christine plans to enter the nursing program and earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSRN). Her long-term goal is to combine her RN credentials with homeopathic knowledge, blending traditional and holistic approaches to care.

On tough days, she finds strength in her family. 鈥淢y son and my mother, who supported me up until her dying day,鈥 she says, are her biggest motivators.

And if there鈥檚 one piece of advice she would offer future students, it鈥檚 this: 鈥淎dvocate for yourself no matter what. Don鈥檛 let fear or uncertainty stop you from reaching your goals.鈥

When asked to sum up her experience at 鉴黄师app in one word, Christine doesn鈥檛 hesitate: 鈥淐hallenging.鈥 But for her, that word carries meaning beyond difficulty. 鈥淚鈥檝e had a lot of hurdles,鈥 she says, 鈥渂ut I knew I wasn鈥檛 alone. Patience is key.鈥

Outside of school, Christine has a fun side that might surprise people鈥攕he鈥檚 a die-hard聽Doctor Who聽fan with a love for all things British.

In five years, she sees herself as a registered nurse, continuing her education and expanding her knowledge. And if her journey so far is any indication, she鈥檒l get there with resilience, humor, and heart.
